R417A Applications
R417A is primarily used in commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, including display cases, refrigerators, and chillers. Substitutes and Compatibility
R417A can be used as a substitute for R134a, an older HFC refrigerant with a high GWP. It can also effectively replace R507, a blend of R134a and R404A. R417A is compatible with most existing refrigeration systems designed for R134a and R507, although some modifications may be necessary in older systems.
EU Regulations and Phase-out Schedule
The European Union (EU) F-Gas Regulation is phasing out the use of high-GWP refrigerants, including R134a. R417A is still permitted for use in new equipment in the EU until January 1, 2030, for most applications. However, it is expected to undergo a phased-out approach in the coming years, with a complete ban by 2040.
