R422D is an HFC refrigerant blend commonly used as a replacement for R22 in commercial and industrial refrigeration applications. It offers similar performance and efficiency to R22, but with a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 2729.
R422D can be used in a variety of refrigeration systems, including supermarket display cases, cold rooms and walk-ins, transport refrigeration, and process cooling. However, due to its high GWP, R422D is also being phased out in Europe under the F-Gas Regulation.
For new refrigeration equipment, the use of R422D was prohibited in 2023.
For existing refrigeration equipment, the use of R422D is still permitted, but it is being phased out gradually. The deadline for complete phase-out is yet to be announced.
Several refrigerants can be used as replacements for R422D in Europe, including:
These refrigerants offer lower GWPs than R422D and are compatible with existing refrigeration systems, making them suitable alternatives.
